In a pioneering move, the British Columbia College of Management (BCCM) has launched a specialized education program tailored for students with special needs, making it the first hospitality and tourism management college in India to offer such an initiative. This program aims to address the significant educational gap for students with disabilities, with UNESCO estimating that 78.64 lakh children with special needs in India are not attending any college.

BCCM’s Special Education Needs (SEN) program is designed to equip these students with the skills needed to succeed in the hospitality and tourism sectors, promoting self-reliance and reducing their dependency on family members. The program includes a comprehensive support system with specialized educators proficient in Braille, sign language, and autism spectrum support, alongside industry experts.

The college has made significant infrastructural modifications to accommodate students with physical disabilities, including the installation of lifts, ramps, and specialized washrooms. Furthermore, recognizing diverse mobility limitations, BCCM offers flexible online courses to ensure accessible education for all.

The curriculum is carefully tailored with input from experts to meet the specific needs of students with disabilities. The ultimate goal is to prepare graduates for employment in the hospitality and tourism industries, fostering empowerment and greater inclusivity within society.
