Huawei has officially announced the launch of Phase II of its Technology-Enabled Open Schools for All initiative, marking a significant step forward in the digital transformation of education. This new phase of the project, unveiled during UNESCO’s Digital Learning Week, will span from 2024 to 2027 and target Brazil, Egypt, and Thailand.
The initiative aims to modernize educational systems in these countries through the implementation of digital open school models. These models integrate technological innovations with educational practices to create flexible, resilient, and inclusive learning environments that combine both offline and online components.
The first phase, running from 2020 to 2024, included successful implementations in Egypt, Ethiopia, and Ghana. This earlier phase provided valuable insights that are guiding the current implementation efforts.
Key figures at the forum included H.E. Mr. Mohamed Abdel-Latif, Egypt’s Minister of Education and Technical Education; H.E. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s Minister of Education; and delegates from Ethiopia, Brazil, and Thailand. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort behind the project.
In Brazil, the initiative will enhance educational inclusion and promote eco-friendly learning practices. It plans to build five smart schools and establish two digital training centers to equip teachers with ICT skills. The project will also offer online courses to support digital learning.
Thailand’s phase will focus on improving educational well-being by constructing ten smart schools and expanding the use of smart classrooms. The country’s project aligns with its 2018-2037 national strategy, emphasizing teacher ICT skills development and digital learning resources.
For Egypt, Phase II will build on the progress made in Phase I, which included the establishment of a New Center for Distance Learning. This center has benefited 950,000 educators, and Phase II will continue to enhance teacher training in ICT skills.
The ongoing and future efforts under the Technology-Enabled Open Schools for All project are set to be pivotal in driving educational transformation across multiple regions, leveraging technology to foster equitable and inclusive learning opportunities.
