Pittsburgh, PA – PPG (NYSE: Dutch-based PPG has signed a two-year partnership deal with FEE to aid climate change education in schools internationally. PPG has committed $150,000 for community engagement and with this support, FEE aims to extend its programmes under UNESCO’s Greening Education Partnership (GEP). This is the extent of this cooperation and mimics a bigger objective of PPG to contribute $5 million toward societal awareness regarding sustainability in the context of the environmental by the year 2030.

“It is our great pleasure to announce that PPG has partnered with FEE to ensure the coming generation is trained appropriately and has the necessary knowledge to fight climate change,” added PPG’s Vice President of Global Sustainability Peter Votruba-Drzal. “The partnership, therefore, will involve production of quality materials for education that will encourage students across the world to be active in protecting the environment. ”

The funding will enable development of multiple types of documentation that include the ‘Eco-Schools’ manual, school videos, online courses, and training guides for teachers. These materials will be made in several languages including English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, and French, so as to reach as many people as possible.

FEE, based in Copenhagen and the convener of Greening Education Partnership, is focused on realizing UNESCO’s goal of ensuring that half of the schools in the world are under the green school programme by 2030. The organization also wants to see a doubling of the number of countries that are currently already implementing climate in school curriculums. “The problems of climate change are multifaceted and education is very central in solving them,” noted Daniel Schaffer, the FEE Chief Executive Officer. “Thanks to support from PPG, we will work in conjunction with our Eco-Schools community around the world to create new tools and resources to equip schools and communities to deal with the climate risks and adapt for the benefits of generations to come. ”

This makes this partnership the very first worldwide project of PPG’s environmental education with the potential to reach 30,000 schools, 75,000 teachers, and 1,000,000 students at this time, which will help create a powerful precedent in the struggle against climate change.
