What can we expect in the field of education in 2024?

The education sector in Maharashtra will be working on both new and old projects in the upcoming year. These include completing the teacher hiring process in government and assisting schools and universities like Savitribai Phule Pune University, expediting bureaucratic procedures through digitization, implementing the National Education Policy 2020 in all institutions, and developing an entirely new marking system.

Redesigning the marking scheme

The four subsequent State Curriculum Frameworks for primary, higher primary, secondary, and higher secondary will be released in 2024, according to Commissioner of Education Suraj Mandhare, even though the foundational stage’s framework was announced in 2023.

Adopting the National Credit Framework will modernize the grading scheme and allow students to receive credit for their academic work, most likely beginning in Maharashtra in 2024.

50,000 teachers to be hired

A record 50,000 new teachers will be employed by Maharashtra’s education department and other institutions in an attempt to address the issue of understaffing in both schools and colleges. In Maharashtra, there are over 60,000 open positions in the corporation, Zilla parishad, municipal council, and private aided and semi-aided schools. In SPPU alone, there have been more than 200 openings in university departments.

By January, about fifty thousand teaching positions will be filled through an extraordinary recruitment procedure. There were multiple delays due to issues with the reservation procedure and roster completion, and we prioritized accuracy over speed. January 2024 should see the completion of the procedure, according to Commissioner of Education Suraj Mandhare.

An attempt to improve accreditation, rating

“2023 was marred by disappointment as we lost several marks on parameters like learning outcomes, and our rankings slipped slightly. This year, we will focus on improvement in PGI (Performance Grading Index), NAAC scores, and other rankings. Central and state funds will be directed accordingly,” said Mandhare.
